A ministry begins with a firm foundation and the cell groups are firm foundations within the G12 Vision. For this reason, it is necessary to take into account some steps when opening a cell group.
1. Make a previous house visit: The leader should visit the house of the host before opening his cell group. In that way, he can know the needs of the home, meet the host, remind the host of the spiritual benefits of having a cell group in his house and explain how the cell group works.
“The ark of God remained with the family of Obed-Edom in his house for three months, and the Lord blessed his household and everything he had.”
(1 Chronicles 13:14)
2. Make a diagnosis of the place: It is important to make a diagnosis of both the place and the people who live in the house where the cell group is to be carried out.
Evaluate also the physical aspects such as the space where the cell group will take place, the lighting and the capacity.
Don't make exaggerated demands and appreciate the host’s willingness. It is important to define the spiritual aspects such as the spiritual condition of the members of the household and the sector where the cell group will be located.
“See what the land is like and whether the people who live there are strong or weak, few or many. What kind of land do they live in? Is it good or bad? What kind of towns do they live in? Are they unwalled or fortified? How is the soil? Is it fertile or poor? Are there trees in it or not? Do your best to bring back some of the fruit of the land.” (It was the season for the first ripe grapes.)
3. Anoint the place: Once the previous things have been done, the next step is to anoint the house of the host.
Explain to the host why it is necessary to anoint the place.
Anointing a place is equivalent to consecrating it for a specific purpose, in this case, attracting God's presence and preparing the preaching of His Word.
“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
4. Pray for the house: Give a brief explanation of the benefits of consecrating a house to God.
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place. I have chosen and consecrated this temple so that my Name may be there forever. My eyes and my heart will always be there.”
(1 Chronicles 7:14-16)
