What are the objectives of an Encounter?

In Acts 9:3-18 Paul had an encounter with our Lord Jesus. There the five objectives of an encounter are clearly manifested:

 

1. Experience repentance and the assurance of Salvation: Although Paul was an expert in the law, when he met Jesus, he realized that the law could not save him. He needed to have an encounter with Jesus so that repentance would come into his life and therefore this would lead him to salvation.

As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”

2. Receive Inner Healing: Paul did not have a healed heart. He killed Christians, persecuted them and had hardness in his heart. By having an encounter with Jesus he was able to receive inner healing and the hardness in his heart was removed. 

Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples. He went to the high priest2 and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem.

3. Be free of bondages from the past: Because of the hardness of Paul's heart, he needed not only inner healing, but also freedom from a spirit of death and religiosity.

“Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked.
“I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” He replied. “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”
(Acts 9: 5-6 NIV)


4. Be filled with the Holy Spirit: Paul was blind because of the veil he had when he met Jesus. When he was at home praying, Jesus heard his prayer and sent a leader named Ananias. By laying his hands on Paul, he would restore his sight and fill him with the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here—has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.
(Acts 9:17)


5. Receive vision: Paul began to be an instrument for the Lord from the moment the veil fell from his eyes and he received vision. He preached Christ throughout the Roman Empire, had several missionary trips and wrote letters to various churches. He was never afraid to face a problem or a difficult situation. He was always sensitive to God's voice and direction and did what God asked.

Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized.

An encounter with Jesus brings an unprecedented transformation to the life of a person. Each objective of an encounter becomes alive in the person and that will show that the Holy Spirit is regenerating that human being. Focus on working on these goals during the encounter!
