What is the character of a true disciple?

What is the character of a true disciple?

What is the character

1. Spirit of service: We must not serve God or others with double intentions, as one who just wants to please man, instead we should do it with a sincere heart, always fearing God, knowing He is above us and discerns the intentions of our heart.

Everything we do, we should do it with all our hearts, as if for the Lord and not to please others.

“Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”

(Colossians 3:22-23)

2. Stewardship: We must learn to be good stewards, in other words, good administrators of the resources God has put in our hands.

We must manage our time, talents, gifts, and even our finances well.

The Lord answered, “Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom the master puts in charge of his servants to give them their food allowance at the proper time? It will be good for that servant whom the master finds doing so when he returns. Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions.

(Luke 12:42-44)

3. Diligence: Every leader must organise their lives so that they can achieve their goals. They do not allow time to slip away, but they make good use of it, in order to edify the life of others.

A sluggard’s appetite is never filled, but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied.

(Proverbs 13:4)

4. Compassionate Heart: The Apostle Paul received a deep compassion for those God has entrusted him with as disciples and those he had brought to be by his side. As a good leader, he looked out for their spiritual growth and always prayed for them.

I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart.

(Romans 9:2)

5. Expertise in the Word: Every leader must have a deep commitment to having daily contact with the Word.

They must have a burning desire to study Scripture, in a continuous and systematic way, so that when they share the Word with others, they do it correctly, guarding the doctrine.

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.

(2 Timothy 2:15)
