What should someone do when he is being sent?
“I have testimony weightier than that of John. For the works that the Father has given me to finish—the very works that I am doing—testify that the Father has sent me.”
(John 5:36)
1. Understand that we are sent by God: Some people think that the call to ministry is given by a man or by some church. However, the Lord Jesus made it very clear that it is God Himself who sends us to do His Work. Since the call to ministry does not come from men, but from God, we must give it the correct priority in our lives.
“For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day.”
(John 6:38-39)
2. Not do our own will but the will of the Father: A person sent is not looking for his personal goals or dreams, but works only to enlarge the Kingdom of God. The Lord explicitly revealed His will to us:
· That we live in holiness (1 Thessalonians 4:3)
· That we help all people come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9)
So a person who has been sent must make sure that his character truly reflects Christ. And in the ministry, that person must focus on leading people towards repentance of their sins and knowing the Lord Jesus as their Savior.
