Why is it having the right attitude so important for a leader?

Why is it having the right attitude so important for a leader?

For example, when our friends happen to be negative people, they could cause us to deviate from our purpose in life.

A King who was widely known by his integrity was Jehoshaphat; however, when Jehoshaphat became friends with King Acab, he put his own life at risk. You can read the whole story in 2 Chronicles 18. Jehoshaphat went to war just to preserve his friendship with Acab, all of the sudden Jehoshaphat was surrounded by Acab’s enemies and he almost died.

By using this example, I would like to help you understand that our attitude is vulnerable to the circumstances around us. It is almost impossible for us to keep our faith up all the time, if we are constantly communicating and sharing our dreams with faithless people.

attitude so important for a leader1. The right attitude transforms our circumstances: As well as Adam, we have been commanded to transform the circumstances arounds by the means of our faith. For example, what is the first thing you declare when you wake up in the morning? -I’m tired, how am I gonna be able to cope with all my responsibilities, etc.

When you do that, you’re giving your life the wrong prophetic destiny. Remember what proverbs author said:

“The tongue has the power of life and death,  and those who love it will eat its fruit.”
(Proverbs 18:21, NIV)

That is the reason why you have to face every day, and every hard time with the best attitude, declaring God's promises over your life. If you do so, the word of God will transform your circumstances, and will bring out of the negative atmosphere that keeps you unable to run with God's given vision to you.

2. Do not settle with the things you’ve already conquered: In general, leaders tend to settle when they have reached a certain level of spiritual fruit, which leads them to lose the boldness needed to reach new challenges. A leader gets stuck when they get into the comfort zone in which the ministry does not seem to require any additional effort. This is something highly dangerous, because it prevents us not only from reaching more people for the kingdom of God, but also from accomplishing God’s purpose for our life.

Then, it is fundamental for those who are growing as leaders, to understand the importance of innovation in accomplishing a divine purpose. If we look at creation, we won’t find absolutely nothing that’s an exact copy of another thing, because God made everything beautiful and unique with his wit.

As you might know this Vision has never stopped growing nor improving, all the opposite, we are constantly evaluating and upgrading the way we get to meet people’s needs. An example of this is what we have been doing with Life Class and Destiny Training. Both have required changes in the way we were used to work, but doing it has been such a blessing to the church growthment and it has helped us to keep the vision spreading around the world.

If you’re a leader, you need to understand times change very quickly and if the church ain’t constantly growing, it will lose its effectiveness.

3. The conquerors attitude in the midst of adversity: In the bible we find the story of a man who was described as perfect by God himself. Job was God’s servant all of the sudden he lost his children, his servants, his properties, his caddle, and even though this hard season endured for a long time, he was able to say:

“Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him..”
(Job 13:15) NIV

The loss of his family and properties, the sickness and night terrors, nor the tough condemnation words from his friends were enough to crush Job’s spirit because he knew that the provision he needed was in God. It was that spirit of victory that made Job a conqueror.

The spiritual richness can be acquired only when we are permanently connected with God and the scriptures, because it is the word of God that becomes a powerful weapon against every argument of the enemy against us.

4. The conquerors attitude in the midst of negativism: Every conqueror needs to learn how to live not by what the circumstances dictate, but by what God has already said in his word. We have Joshua and Caleb's example when they inspected the promised land with a group of another ten men who brought a negative report and spoke badly about the land (Numbers 13). These two biblical heroes of the old testament, were able to have a spirit of conquest and a high dose of faith in the midst of the people’s negativity because of their permanent relationship with God. Joshua and Caleb did not look at the circumstances, nor the negative report given by their pairs. A godly person knows that the Lord is over every circumstance, and that He is faithful to fulfill what he has promised.

A very particular aspect that helps to identify a conqueror from a faithless and negative person is the way a person talks. See that in this bible story what made a huge difference between the 10 and Joshua and Caleb was the report they gave.

So, I recommend you to make up your mind to remove from your life and your vocabulary every negative word, because negativism does not build up, but destroys.

The best way of facing negativism is declaring the word of God!

5. The conquerors attitude in the midst of fear: One of the most powerful enemies that a conqueror has to face is fear, because whoever is controlled by fear won’t be able to step in faith.

Most of the time, what is behind these character issues is an emotional hidden wound in the heart. However, when someone with this problem opens up in order to God to receive help, the weakness is turned into strength.

Fear causes failure, and its mission is to deviate people from God’s purpose. In fact, everything the man fears becomes their lord making that person a slave. The proverbs author said:

“Fear of man will prove to be a snare,   but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe.”
(Proverbs 29:25, NIV)

The word of God also states:

“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love”

(1 John 4:18, NIV)

These two verses teach that by the love of God, we can put our trust on him and be set free from fear.

I’ve met many people who have lost a lot of time and opportunities to grow in leadership just because of fear.

Remember, fear is a great preacher who uses a subtle voice to paint the worst panorama in our minds, bad enough to let us frozen. Nevertheless, you need to learn how to recognize fear as the enemy’s voice, and not pay attention to it.

Every time fear knocks at your door you have to work against it declaring the promises of God, as Joshua and Caleb did.
