Why should I have fellowship with the Holy Spirit for my ministry to bear fruit?
“Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”
(John 7:38 NIV)
People are in great confusion when it comes to believing in Jesus. Some do it to quiet their conscience, because they are under the yoke of tradition. They know that there is a superior being and they want to have a superficial relationship with Him. There are also those who are part of a Christian community, but live a Christianity in their own way.
Jesus Himself gives us true direction so that we can enjoy a good relationship with Him. The secret lies in knowing what the Bible says about Jesus so that we can relate to Him.
The psalmist said:
“Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?”
(Psalms 139:7 NIV)
David reached a deep understanding of who the Spirit of God was. He possibly tried to measure God, but came to the conclusion that God is so great that He fills everything and is everywhere.
1. God dwelling in us: When King Solomon dedicated the temple he had built to God, he said:
“But will God really dwell on earth? The heavens, even the highest heaven, cannot contain you. How much less this temple I have built!”
(1 Kings 8:27 NIV)
Solomon could see the greatness of God and understood that the earth was not big enough to host His presence.
Through the prophet Isaiah, the Lord declared:
“This is what the Lord says: “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Where is the house you will build for me? Where will my resting place be? Has not my hand made all these things, and so they came into being?” declares the Lord. “These are the ones I look on with favor: those who are humble and contrite in spirit, and who tremble at my word.
(Isaiah 66:1-2 NIV)
Paul in his speech to the Athenians said:
“The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands, and He is not served by human hands, as if He needed anything. Rather, He Himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. For in Him we live and move and have our being. As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are His offspring.’
(Acts 17: 24, 25, 28 NIV)
Being such a majestic, great and powerful God, He accepted to make the heart of the believer His own home. He preferred to live within us then to live in a beautiful and luxurious sanctuary.
2: The Holy Spirit is a person: When we say that He is a person, we mean that He has the same characteristics as a person. This means that He loves, feels, is saddened, and has the same feelings as a human being.
Some people think that God does not care how they live, that He is not interested in their problems, but they are wrong. Jesus Himself said that just as the father pities his children, the Lord pities those who fear Him and that God has the same heart of compassion.
Isaiah expressed it by saying that in all their afflictions, He was afflicted.
When a father or mother sees that their child is sick, they become worried. They would do anything to make the child pass that moment of pain. God, our Heavenly Father, has the same desire. He wants all of His children to live in good health, and for His blessing to flow into all areas of their lives.
The Apostle expressed it by saying:
“Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.”
(3 John 1:2 NIV)
John specifically speaks of God's heart's desire to bless our life with peace, prosperity, spiritual growth, harmony in our family, etc. He wants the best for us because He loves us!
3. Depending on Him:
How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how He went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with Him.
(Acts 10:38 NIV)
The Holy Spirit came to the Person of Jesus. In that way, the Spirit and the Word were united.
God filled Jesus with the Holy Spirit and by that anointing the Lord was moved to do good, to heal people and to deliver those oppressed by the devil.
Something powerful that you should know is that the same Spirit that was given to Christ has also been given to us. This happened on the day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit came upon the believers. That day, the Spirit was telling the church that we would no longer be alone because from that moment on He would walk with us.
The legal representative of God on this earth is the Holy Spirit and this is possible because He is a person. The early church sends a letter to the first council in Jerusalem in the book of Acts:
“It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us not to burden you with anything beyond the following requirements: You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid these things. Farewell.
(Acts 15:28-29 NIV)
By expressing "It seemed good to the Holy Spirit ..." we see that the church respected the opinion and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Every decision they were going to make, they first consulted with Him and awaited His approval.
“Or do you think Scripture says without reason that he jealously longs for the spirit he has caused to dwell in us?”
(James 4:5 NIV)
The Holy Spirit longs to be part of your life. He wants to dwell in you, but He does not want just a part of your being, He longs for total control.
If we allow Him to guide our lives, then we will not make mistakes in any step we take. This is because the present is as clear to the Spirit as the future. Although we do not understand many things, if we live in obedience to Him, then we will see effective results of our decisions. I have been serving the Holy Spirit for more than thirty years and I can say that there is no other like Him.
What Satan seeks most is that Pastors and leaders are careless in their life of prayer and in the study of the Word. Taking advantage of this carelessness, he comes to bombard them with all kinds of negative thoughts, trying to lead them to discouragement and passivity. He pressures them with different problems and occupations, and they get entangled in many things that can suffocate them.

The priority of each one of us should be to run to the rhythm of the Vision. You must have that internal strength to run at great speed. You are not in this world by chance, you are living because of God’s divine purpose. God believes in you so do not fail God. First you must do your part in trying to do His will.
The enemy will always try to get you to do the opposite of what God wants you to do. Therefore you should be aware of your weak areas and understand that God wants to use you for the opposite thing. Your greatest strength becomes what was previously your greatest weakness.
