How to be a husband after God’s own heart?
In Ephesians 5:31-33 The lord through Paul instructs husbands about the proper way to develop their roll inside the family.
1. Work as a team with the wife: It’s the husband labor to coordinate all of the activities and decisions of the family in mutual consent with his wife in mutual submission.
“Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.”
(Ephesians 5:21 NIV)
2. Being a visionary husband: The husband is the head of the family to visualize the path the family is going to, and it’s over him that the responsibilities fall on. When giving direction to the family, his responsibility is of the highest level. His wife must always find in him wisdom.
“For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.“
(Ephesians 5:23 NIV)
3. Practicing a healthy leadership: The wife’s submission towards her husband gives him another responsibility and it’s to lead in a proper and healthy way so their family doesn’t go through unwanted situations that can be avoided.
“Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.”
(Ephesians 5:24 NIV)
4. Being a model of sacrificial love: A husband after God’s own heart must follow the example of Jesus, He showed his love for his church not loving it in any simple way but with a love that is willing to be sacrificed for the other.
The husband must be willing to sacrifice his rest and comfort for the wellbeing of his wife and family.
“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her”

5. To allow the Word of God to produce any change:
Following the example of Jesus, who cleaned his church with the word of God, the husband must know and apply the bible in his life so that he can later give that portion to his wife and depend on the Holy Spirit to produce the necessary changes in the character of each member of the family without hurting the relationships in the family.
“… To make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.”
(Ephesians 5:26-27 NIV)
6. To love in a practical way: Starting from the point that love is a decision that you make, the husband must look for all the practical forms to show his love to his wife.
Husbands shouldn’t just stick with romantic gestures, but discover the love language of their wives and show affection in the most effective way.
“In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church— for we are members of his body”
(Ephesians 5:28-30 NIV)
7. To have a holy past: Leaving the past behind and all of its wrong influences is part of the proper construction of a christian home along with new principles and a new foundation.
“For this reason a man will leave his father and mother”
(Ephesians 5:31a) NIV)
8. To stay united: The biggest challenge for a husband after God’s own heart is to remain in unity with his wife. The enemy will always try to set them apart in some way.
“… And be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”
(Ephesians 3:31 NIV)
