To disciple is to reproduce the character of Christ in a new believer. It is equipping people with the necessary tools so they can become true disciples who win souls and form disciples. In that way they become mature believers who grow until they have the character of Jesus.
There are some specific characteristics of the Discipleship stage that manifest the importance of this step in the Ladder of Success. In the Sermon of the Mount in Matthew 5 to 7, Jesus spent quality time to disciple people.
1. The mission Jesus left us was to make disciples, not just sympathizers. (Matthew 6: 14-16)
2. People are like pots of clay, who must be formed according to the Potter's plan. (Matthew 7: 15-20)
3. We form people with patience, giving them the best of ourselves and doing it in a personal way. (Psalm 23)
4. We disciple 12 people because Jesus discipled 12 and we want to follow His example. (John 13:15)
“Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”
(Genesis 2:7)
