From Abraham in Genesis 12, Jacob in Genesis 32, Moses in Exodus 3, the prophet Isaiah in Isaiah chapter 6, Jeremiah in chapter 1 of his book, to John the Baptist in John 1:31-33, the Samaritan woman in John 4, Nathanael in John 1:47, Nicodemus in John 3, Zacchaeus in Luke 19, Paul in Acts 9: 3-18, the jailer in Acts 16, there are quite a few biblical testimonies of people whose lives were transformed by having a face to face encounter with God.
If only I knew where to find him; if only I could go to his dwelling!
(Job 23:3 NIV)
Job longed to meet God to expose his grievances, to be restored from the tribulations he had experienced. Only until chapter 42 did he come face to face with God and got His answers and restoration.
So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, “It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared”.
(Genesis 32:30 NIV)
When a human being experiences a personal encounter with God, his nature is changed. All weaknesses of character disappear in an instant. Jacob had a deceptive character which had always gotten him into trouble. God knew this and in His encounter with Jacob, the first thing He did was affect Jacob's character and change his name to Israel.
But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.”
(Luke 19:8 NIV)
Neither the accusations of his compatriots, nor seeing his people suffer from Roman oppression, nor even having been expelled from the synagogue, had produced any change in the life of Zacchaeus. Just one encounter with Jesus produced radical decisions that made him a new creation.
When we want a person to be won and consolidated in a genuine way, he must experience a personal encounter with Jesus. He must be confronted with his past, healed of his wounds and receive the revelation of the Cross. He also must receive forgiveness of sins, deliverance, vision and fullness of the Holy Spirit. All of the above is lived when the person concentrates all his attention on the will of God for his life.
The Word of God is clear regarding the men who had an encounter with Jesus. The evidence of their new birth is clear and the same will happen with your disciples. Work diligently so that everyone experiences a genuine Encounter with Jesus!
