In 2 Samuel 13 an episode is described where one of the sons of David, Amnon raped his half sister Tamar. This situation being wrongly managed by David unleashed a series of unfortunate events in the family of the best king Israel had.
Months later Absalom, the brother of Tamar, choose to take revenge in his own hands because David didn’t do a thing.
All of this produced one of the hardest and most painful episodes in the life of David, because his own son Absalom cast him out of the kingdom and abused his concubines in front of the whole people.
It isn’t right for a ministry to be built at the expense of a healthy family life.
What good is it for men to win the world and lose his family?
Ps. Cesar Castellanos Domínguez
We all know that building a ministry requires time and dedication, but we also must understand that our first ministry is our family, and it is the first responsibility we have as servants of God.
The lord warns us about how the people that want to lead the church must have their family in order. It wouldn’t be coherent with our message and try to win souls and bless families when ours is getting lost.
The G12 vision requires a great amount of time and effort to be carried out, but never above a healthy family life, on the contrary, we must find the way to serve in the ministry as a family.
We must learn from the example of David who despite of being a great leader of his nation, couldn’t free his own family, which ended getting out of control.
Finally, 1 Samuel 8:3 warns us, how Samuel despite being one of the greatest prophets of Israel wasn't able to influence and lead his children on to the right path.
The key word here is balance, in other words, doing one thing without quitting the other. a little bit here, a little bit there as the prophet teaches.
“But his sons did not follow his ways. They turned aside after dishonest gain and accepted bribes and perverted justice.”
(1 Samuel 8:3 NIV)
